I chose the name WHIRLING THUNDER to pay tribute to my Native American ancestor by that name Whirling Thunder (pictured at right) was the son of the great Chief Blackhawk, well-known warrior and leader of the Sac-Fox tribe.

Blackhawk and his people undoubtedly experienced the violent tornadoes in their nomadic wanderings of the Great Plains region, which could account for the colorful name.
The Whirling Thunder Kennel is located in southeast KS (also known for its tornadic activity), thus the name seemed quite appropriate.

The image of Whirling Thunder is taken from a portrait which was painted in Washington, D.C. when he and his father visited then U.S. President, Andrew Jackson.
